撮影後期記憶の樹木たちThe trees who remember

★１-シダレヤナギ　広島青少年センター横河川

原爆ドームに一番近い被爆樹木と思い、会いに行った。
全体から見る姿は幹の太さが異様に感じる。そして、幹は苦悩を表すかのように語りかけてくる。生かすために、いろいろな手当てがされているのだろうと感じた。
何時間撮影をしていただろうか、一度は、カメラを片付け次にいこうとするが、また、カメラバックを開いて撮っていた。何か伝えたいことがあるらしいが、私にはわからない。
理屈では撮れない。


★１-Weeping Willow          

Riverside by Hiroshima Youth Center

This tree is the closest A-Bombed Tree to the Dome. The trunk, which seems oddly thick, spoke to me as if to tell me about its distress.
People are doing everything they can to keep it alive. I spent countless hours taking pictures there, putting my camera away to go elsewhere, then opening my bag again to continue.
The tree seemed to have something to say but I couldn’t understand. I didn’t need a reason to take pictures.

 ★5-クスノキ‐白神社

他を寄せ付けないような威厳というか畏怖を感じて、まず、お参りをして宮司さんに許可を頂いて撮影に入った。
「結界の中には入らないように気をつけてください」と言われ、細心の注意を払って撮影した。昔は、周りが海で岩礁だった場所。
大岩に食い込むように生きながらえている。岩は被爆当時のままのように赤茶けている。

★5—Camphor

Shirakami Shrine

Its dignity keeps others at bay.
I paid my respects to the shrine and got permission from the chief priest to take pictures. He told me to be careful not to cross the barrier.
I obliged. This used to be a reef. The camphor seems to be digging itself into a large rock.
The rocks are still red from when the bomb was dropped.

★20-ユーカリ　広島城

有名な被爆樹木と聞いていた。予想よりも大きく、今まで見たことのない樹木だった。

広島城を訪問した人が多く通り過ぎて行く。
全体と木の森に入り込むと印象がずいぶんと違う。
全体見るのと木の森に入り込むのと印象が随分と違う。
全体は大きく雄大なパワーを感じる威風堂々とした姿。中に入ると、添え木でやっと立っているのが痛々しい。
自然に生きることの難しさを感じる。しかし、この木は精一杯生きている。春には新しい芽を出す。

★20-Eucalyptus

Hiroshima Castle

This famous A-Bombed Tree was larger than I had expected, not like any tree I had ever seen before.
Visitors to Hiroshima Castle passed it by.
Unlike seeing it as part of the forest, alone it is majestic with a sense of great power, but the braces are painful to see. I feel the difficulty of living naturally.
This tree is doing its best to live. In the spring, new buds will sprout. 

★25-ボタン　本逕寺

高さ１５０ｃｍくらいの小さなボタンの木。満開だった。

撮影許可をお願いに駐車場の方に申し込んだ。

「良い時に来たね。木が弱るので明日は花を落とすんだ」と告げられた。

★25-Peony

Honkyoji Temple

A small peony, only 150cm tall, in full bloom.

When I went to ask permission to photograph it, I was told that I had come at a good time.

The tree was weakening and would be dropping its flowers tomorrow.

★27-クロガネモチ　広島城

広島城のクロガネモチ。母の木。我が子に乳をあげたかった母親のように見える。

★27-Round Leaf Holly

Hiroshima Castle

This round leaf holly at Hiroshima Castle is a mother tree. It looks like a mother wanting to breastfeed her child.

★32-クスノキ　市営住宅西側駐車場

大きなクスの木は、人々が行き交う川沿いのシンボルとなっている。

夕方、日没直前に南の海から白い鳥たちが通過していく。

手前の橋までは、50ｍくらいの上空を飛んでいるが

橋げたを通過すると、水面すれすれに群を組んで川を上ってくる。
クスノキのある水面２０cmくらいの低い位置を幾つかの群れになり北を目指す。
そして、いったん護岸に集まり、再び川を上っていく。

★32-Camphor

City Housing Project (Westside Parking Lot)

This large camphor has become a symbol where people stroll along the river.
In the evening, just before sunset, white birds fly from the sea in the south.
They first fly 50m high in the sky until they reach the bridge, where they lower themselves to the surface of the river near the camphor and flock together before heading north. 

★42-クスノキ　天満小学校南東側道路

道路側に大きなクスノキがそびえている。幹には穴がひとつ開いていた。キツツキの作った穴かと思ってみていたら、穴の奥からハチが出てきた、ハチの巣だった。

Roadside near Tenma Elementary School

The large camphor towers over the road. It has a hole in the trunk.
I looked at it, thinking it was the work of a woodpecker, when a bee flew out. It was a beehive.

★43-45プラタナス　天満小学校

校庭の片隅に３本が並んで立っている。添え木をして大切に守っているのが感じられる。

幹は空洞化して周りの樹皮が支えている。
空洞の中には、新しい芽が芽生えている。カミキリムシが暮らしている。必死で生きている。

★43-45 Plane

Tenma Elementary School

Three plane trees line the edge of the schoolyard, carefully protected by braces.
A trunk is hollowed out, supported by surrounding bark.
There is new growth in the hollow, where a long-horned beetle has found a home.

★47-アオギリ　平和公園

2018年8月6日8時前。大音量のスピーカーが騒がしい広場には参列者のほか、何百人もの警察官が集合。

アオギリの木を注目する人は、ほとんどいない。

8時15分が来た。みんなが記念碑に向かって鎮魂の祈りを捧げている間、静寂が漂う。

黙祷終わりという声で、再び喧騒が戻って来る。

地元の方は、夜明け前にお参りに来る。ほどなくアオギリの周りに人が増えた。

★47-Aogiri Chinese Parasol

Peace Park

Just before 8 a.m., August 6, 2018. 100s of police officers join attendees amidst loud voices.
Very few pay attention to the Aogiri.
The Park falls silent for a minute 8:15 in prayer for the souls, then the noise returns.
The locals come to pray before dawn. Soon people will surround the Aogiri.
